In search of an anvil

Postby Forrest on Mon Feb 22, 2010 9:39 pm

G'day everyone, ages ago when I first introduced my self I had just found a microwave transformer that I was going to use as a makeshift anvil. I had a plate welded on top of it and it lasted a little while but eventually fell apart. Anyway I had another one, welded a plate on top and welded the sides up a bit to hold it all together a bit better and it has lasted me up until now, but it too is starting to come apart :( .
So I was wondering if anyone had an anvil (or something bit better than a microwave transformer  ) that they are looking to sell, I'm not looking for anything huge as my budget is limited. I have around $350 - $400 to spend (including any shipping  ), so am open to ideas.
Thanks heaps in advance!

Why don't you try engineering places near you, you might find someone with rail track that can be cut to a length you need.

Thanks Glen, hadn't thought of an engineering place and all the scrap yards don't seem to sell to members of the public.
I shall keep an eye out.

Thanks Shaun, I'll keep my eye on it, if the price doesn't get too ridiculous (saw an anvil on there for $9/lb :s) then I might place a bid.

Thanks

i can get you a lumb of steel that would serve as an anvil from $100-$200.
just a slab of 4, 5, or maybe 6".
if you're not fussy on shape.

I'm not too fussy on shape, a london pattern would be awesome if the price was right but a 5 or 6 inch slab would be the next best thing .
How much would one of these slabs weigh?
